Welcome to DIY Thursday!
This weeks project will help create cute and practical storage for pet food! Here is what you will need:
-Glass container (Got mine at WalMart for $6)
-Use the EAD Designs Design Center to create your pet's name
So we have a cutie little kitten named Indy (Short for Indiana, after my husbands home state and where we found her) that lives in our house. At the end of our kitchen cabinets, we keep her food and water dish and her kitten chow.
There are a couple of problems with this. She likes to squish the bag in attempts to get into it.
Which is actually cute and funny but one day we may find her down a bag of food. The other thing is that the bag in the floor is not my favorite look but cabinet space is very limited in our galley kitchen. The third problem is that I scored an awesome bulk deal on kitten chow and the new bag is huge. So I did not want it in the floor.
Here was my solution. I found this little glass canister at Walmart for $6. It is actually not so little and holds a decent amount of cat food. But I did not want to just stick it in the floor, I mean how un-fun is that?!
So I used the Design Center to create her name in a fun font. You could really do any font you wanted to. I also chose to get it in dark brown to match other things in our kitchen, but more on that later…
I simply peeled off the backing.
And stuck it to the canister! Once pressed on there, I gave it a firm rub to make sure the vinyl was stuck.
Then I simply peeled the transfer paper off slowly at an angle, starting with top right corner.
When I was all done, this is what I got. Super cute and all for her! She loves it…I swear!
Then I filled 'er up with kitty food.
Now here is the thing about the brown. It makes sense for our kitchen, but when filled with kitten food it is kind of hard to see.
From a distance, this is what it looks like. So while I know it is there and is super cute, the average visitor won't be able to see it at a glance unless we let the food in it dwindle, which I am sure will happen.
I still love it, but I think some time in the future I will go back and re-do it with white or light green letters. Learn from my mistakes! Get something that will stand out when the jar is empty (mine does) AND full!
Either way, I am so happy with the way that it turned out and its so much better than the bag!

so cute…
